REPRESENTATION
Dear Consignor, I would like to thank you for choosing Turnbull Equine Productions and the Great American Ranch and Trail Horse Sale to help you sell your good horse. We work very hard to offer one of the top equine venues for you to sell at, with lots of buyers from all over the country, both live and online. We ask that you consign a great, sound horse, make a great video and awesome photos as well as having your horse looking its very best upon arrival. We do hold the option to turn down any horse offered for consignment that does not meet the standard of a healthy, fit horse of good weight, health, and condition. This is a sale for sound horses, with good temperament and disposition.

REQUIREMENTS
We will accept 6–10 professional quality photos of your horse, and a good video with music. We highly recommend that you use a professional photographer (or talented friend), for your photos; the added expense will pay off in the long run. One of the photos must be a full, side view, profile shot, mane side showing, with saddle and bridle, and NO RIDER IN THE PHOTO. Also, another full side view with just a halter, to show conformation. Please choose a good background to enhance your horse. The other photos should show your horse riding at what he does best; trail riding, ranch work, arena, showing, creek with water, trail obstacles, etc. Photos and video can be emailed to ga.trailhorse@gmail.com. All submitted photos will become the property of Turnbull Equine Productions, to be used as needed for promotions. Your video is so important! Have a plan to film in nice riding areas and show your horse in all 3 gaits. The showing of your horses’ gait does not need to be multiple laps in an arena. But enough to show how well the horse responds to cues and how well they move. Remember to show a variety of skills in your video and to add music for the final touch. We do not accept multiple videos, they must be combined and edited into one video. Your finished video must be downloaded to youTube. Click on SHARE, then send that URL link to us. The better the video and photos, the bigger the response to your horse. The time you take now to do this, will add to the final price you are asking. Today’s buyers are savvy and know what they want. If you need professional help with your photos or video, please contact us and we may be able to recommend a professional who can help you. A negative coggins test within 12 months and an interstate health certificate within 30 days of the auction is required at check in, along with original reg. papers and a signed transfer. A grade or unregistered horse must have a vet statement or equine dentist verifying the age of the horse.

PROMOTIONS
We will add your phone number to your online posts and catalog so that prospective buyers can call you with questions about your horse. They may want to come inspect and ride your horse if you are in proximity. Please accommodate them because that shows they are very interested in your horse. Have your horse looking good and prepared if the buyer is willing to drive to your home to see the horse. Please note that when you consign your horse, you have signed the contract that says you will not sell your horse prior to the sale. No photos or video will be posted until we receive the consignment form, copy of registration papers and fees. Please be watching our Facebook page for your horse to be posted. When it is posted please regularly share the post on your Facebook page, Instagram, Reels, Tic Tok and any other group pages you think will promote your horse being for sale. By you sharing the post, it goes a long way to let folks know your good horse is being offered at auction at the Great American Ranch and Trail Horse Sale. We will also try to post any additional videos and photos you may have prior to the sale if you send them to us by email. Please don’t send photos and consignment forms information by text message or Face book messenger, email only.

ARRIVAL
Only horses consigned to the sale are allowed on the grounds. Thursday is arrival day, but early arrival is allowed and recommended on Tuesday or Wednesday with an early arrival fee of $25 per day, per horse. Check that fee on your consignment form and pay on our website or it can be added on at the sale office when you check in. When you arrive, pull straight ahead to the Stable Office. They will give you your barn and stall assignments. Arriving on Thursday or earlier will give you time to get settled in with your horse and work in the arena and sale ring. Upon arrival have your horse clipped and bathed as some buyers will be there ready to view your horse. There are wash stalls on the premises if needed. If you want a tack stall the fee is $75, check the box on your consignment form. Each stall will have a stall card listing name, pedigree, and catalog statement of your horse. All stalls must have shavings, you may bring your own or you may purchase them at the stable office upon arrival. You will need to bring your own buckets, feed, hay, etc. After your horses are settled in, please check in with your paperwork at the sale office in the coliseum, up on the concourse. Please note: you must have all of your veterinarian paperwork printed out and ready for the office clerk. The sale office is not responsible to print vet reports for each horse. Ask for directions where to get your hip number stamped on your horse. Do this soon so folks can identify your horses’ number in the catalog especially during the Preview of Sale Horses and Meet and Greet Social on Thursday.

SALE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS – Thursday
There will be a Consignors Meeting and Luncheon on Thursday, April 3rd at 12:30 at the top of the concourse, past the sale office. All consignors are asked to attend, you will be our guest at the luncheon. This luncheon is for the consignors and their family/friends. We will also use this time for a Q and A to ask any questions you may have. Thursday is also our PREVIEW OF SALE HORSES at 3:00 followed by the “Meet and Greet Social”. This is highly recommended for you to be there as lots of folks are there to watch the horses demonstrate first, then talk with consignors after the demonstration. We will take 3 horses at a time to demonstrate, and we would like them in catalog order. You will be able to ride your horse and show his best qualities while working some obstacles in the arena. You may also bring in your own props to demonstrate on. Whips, Guns and Tricks, will be done at the end of the demonstration. After all the horses have worked, we will open the arena back up and let all the horses come back in for our Meet and Greet Social. Buyers will be invited back in to talk with consignors and ask questions about your horse. That is also a time for folks to “Try before you Buy.” If they are a very serious buyer for your horse, they may want to make an appointment with you to try your horses privately later, or the following day. Please try to work that out with them if you feel they are a very interested buyer.

If you cannot arrive until Friday, we ask that you arrive no later than 10 am. A Farrier will be on the grounds Thursday, Friday and Saturday. ALL horse sales prior to or after the auction must go through the sale office. We trust in the consignors honesty and integrity to do the right thing when selling a horse outside of the sale ring. Bring the buyer to the sale office immediately. However, all horses must still be offered to the public through the sale ring, No Exceptions.

You are invited to compete in the Flat Hat Farm, Ranch Horse Competition at 2:30 pm on Friday and the Star H Equine, Trail Horse Competition beginning on Friday evening after the Grand Entry of Sale Horses at 6:30 pm. We allow horses to cross enter in both competitions if you so choose. If you did not enter the competitions on your consignment form, but would like to do so, go to the sale office and pay the entry fee and you will be added to the competition.

RANCH HORSE COMPETITION – FRIDAY At 2:15. You will enter the arena as a group and a judge will go over the course with you and answer any questions you may have. The competition starts at 2:30 and horses will compete in the catalog order. We ask that you use a breakaway rope. You will first start with a pattern which will be the AQHA Ranch Horse pattern #2. Then a cow will be released, and you will box (hold) it at the end of the arena. Time will be called and you will then drive the cow down the arena in to a pen. After that you will drive the cow out of the box and attempt to rope him. The competitors will all come back Saturday morning after the Finals of the Trail Competition for the awards ceremony.

GRAND ENTRY OF SALE HORSES – All horses will gather at the holding area starting at 6:10pm to warm up for the GRAND ENTRY OF SALE HORSES at 6:30pm, followed by the National Anthem. Afterwards all horses will leave the arena.

TRAIL HORSE COMPETITION – 7:00pm All horses will compete in the order you are in the catalog. A walk through of the trail course will take place first. If you are entered in the competition, ask someone to hold your horse or leave him in the stall if you are a later number. You will then all gather in the coliseum to walk the trail course on foot. As we go to each obstacle the judges will tell you what they are looking for in your horses’ performance. After all horses have completed the course the judges scores will be added up and announced over the microphone and posted at the sale office. Those horses will be the ones with the top ten highest scores. The top 10 scoring horses will come back on Saturday morning for the Trail Competition Finals.

TRAIL COMPETITION FINALS – Saturday, at 9:30 am. Top ten scoring horses compete over new obstacles for the Finals course. After you have completed the trail course, you and your horse will have approximately 2 minutes to perform Free Style. For example: riding bridleless, doing some of your own obstacle’s that you bring in, show a specialty maneuver, etc. The Freestyle will not be judged. After the competition is completed by all of the horses, those top 10 horses will remain in the arena while the scores are added up. At that time the Ranch horses come in first to receive their awards. That will be followed by the Trail Competition awards presentation.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
If you NO SALE your horse, you are not eligible to keep the competition saddle awards, buckles, or award money, but you may keep any gifts that are given for placing. Your photos will be taken with the awards, but the awards will be given to you when you check out. The sale will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 5th. Horses are sold in the order they are listed in the sale catalog. Dogs must be on a leash or crated.

DEPARTURE
It is important to try to talk with the buyer of your horse after the purchase so you can discuss the feeding program you have been using, such as hay, brands of feed, amounts, etc. Also ask when they will be leaving so you know if the horse needs to be fed on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. You may want to offer to leave hay and grain for them. Have a give-away bucket to leave for your horses’ water if you depart to go home immediately when the sale is over. We ask all horses to be removed by 10:00 am if possible. Let us know if you need special arrangements made.

If you need hotel reservations, please check our website, and click on Lodging. Ask for the Virginia Horse Center special rate when reserving your room at local hotels.
